Established in 1940, Snowbasin is one of the oldest continually operating ski areas in North America. Alf Engen, the pioneer of powder skiing, helped architect our unique ski runs that feature wide-open bowls, world-class groomers, and steep trees runs. It formed as an authentic ski area nestled on the back-side of Mt. Ogden’s stunning peaks carved by prehistoric glaciers.
Snowbasin underwent a world-class transformation as the host of the 2002 Salt Lake Winter Games downhill events, adding three luxurious lodges and expanded terrain with the most advanced lift system in Utah featuring two new gondolas, a tram, and high-speed quad. With a 22,500 seat stadium in place, Snowbasin was at the center of the world as top-athletes raced 80 mph down the resort. These courses, the Grizzly and Wildflower Downhill, remain in place today for guests to enjoy.
Today, Snowbasin offers a unique experience from any ski resort in the world and is a favorite destination for locals and visitors alike. 80 years after its creation, Snowbasin remains a huge public playground for all to enjoy.
