With just under a month away from the start of the 22-23 season, Snowbasin Resort kicked off its snowmaking efforts last night, thanks to the colder temperatures brought in by the first snow of the season this past weekend. The resort plans to open Friday, November 18, with some new upgrades for the winter ahead.  

After the addition of Snowbasin’s Middle Bowl Express lift last winter, the resort’s mid-mountain terrain received another exciting upgrade this year with the expansion of its snowmaking capabilities through the incorporation of 22 new machines covering nearly 10 acres of terrain. This increase will allow Snowbasin to expand its early season terrain offerings, facilitating a better start to the season for pass holders and guests.

“Winter is no longer coming, it’s here. Thanks to the cooler temperatures and our advanced snowmaking system, we are able to kick off snowmaking earlier than normal this season,” said Davy Ratchford, General Manager of Snowbasin Resort. “We are thrilled to continue to bring these kinds of enhancements to the resort to advance each guest’s experience when visiting Snowbasin. The start of the season is just around the corner, and we can’t wait to welcome season pass holders and guests back for another incredible year!”

In addition to more snowmaking, two of Snowbasin’s popular trails received further enhancements. Boardwalk was widened to improve mountain safety and flow as the easiest way down from Needles Gondola, and Bullwinkle received grading improvements to serve as a primary route down the mountain for an improved skiing experience. The resort also added new glade skiing trails to provide easier access to tree skiing. These routes are identified on Snowbasin’s trail map and can be found off well-known runs like Dan’s Run, Becks and Bear Hollow Woods.

Beginners and families were also a focus with this season’s upgrades, as Snowbasin added the Snowshoe Adventure Zone, an educational exploration area for families, to its roster of offerings for those new to the world of snow sports. This addition comes on the tail of the resort’s expanded beginner terrain added last season near the resort base area. 

As Snowbasin embarks on another season, the resort will be joining the Ikon Pass and Mountain Collective Pass after a three-year affiliation with the Epic Pass. Ikon Pass holders receive up to seven days of skiing and riding at Snowbasin Resort. Mountain Collective Pass holders receive two days at Snowbasin with half-priced tickets available once the two included days are redeemed.
