Opening Week at Snowbasin Resort

By Alyssa Erickson Wed Nov 21 2018 Basin Buzz, Skiing, Snowbasin Report, Snowboarding

Welcome back Snowbasin Family!

Today our family arrived at Snowbasin, trailing skis, poles, and a myriad of forgotten gear. Lucky for us it was a warm and sunny day, making our gear mishaps manageable. We showed up to clear blue skies, music pumping on the patio, free hot chocolate for those of us picking up season passes, and early season employees that were on their game! No kidding, that daunting season pass line? It flowed like water!

Similar to Santa showing up early in your home, Snowbasin Resort worked hard around the clock to open early for us this season! Opening this past Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2018, Snowbasin joined the elite few resorts to open before Thanksgiving here in Utah.

We grabbed our passes and joined the party in the lift line. After a brief warmup on the Little Cat Lift, we jumped on the gondola and headed up to Needles Lodge. I continue to be impressed with the extensive snowmaking at Snowbasin. Despite a dry November, the skier or rider can ski 2,300 vertical feet of terrain starting from day one! I don’t know any other resorts that can do that!

I glanced to my left and to my right. Flanked by my kid’s smiling faces I thought, “Oh yes. This! This is what we do in the winter! We play in the mountains and have a ton of fun. It is good to be back.”

The Snowbasin Family

We all show up at Snowbasin from different walks of life. Some are in college, others are in diapers. Many weathered faces have seen more seasons at Snowbasin than I have been alive. Looking around the patio, I see more parents than I can count. They show up toting toddlers and extra gear to the ski hill for that first lesson. First-timers meander around, getting their bearings. They have decided this is the season they become a “skier or rider.” And while we are different and unique, we all show up for the same reason. For the love of snow. For the love of moving fast in the mountains. For the love of sharing it all with our friends, partners, and our kids.

That is what I love. The Snowbasin community. Early season starts to feel a little like a family reunion after a summer where we have been off on different adventures. So come on up and join us! You don’t want to miss it.

Open Terrain

Snowbasin resort has three lifts currently open: Needles Gondola, Littlecat Express, and Middle Bowl Triple. The top-to-bottom run includes Sweet Revenge, Porky Traverse, Bear Hollow, School Hill, Powder Puff, and a small terrain park. With the limited trails it is a great way to get your skier and snowboarder legs ready for the full season. Please be mindful and respect the slow zones, ski and ride in control, and be aware of the other guests. We all want to enjoy the long winter season ahead!

Make sure to call Snowbasin Resort Snow Phone at 801.620.1100 or visit http://www.snowbasin.com for the latest information and open terrain, especially as a series of storms line up to hit the Wasatch during the next 7-10 days!
