Retreat Workshops

Increase productivity of your team with a selection of workshops including:

Team Building

Group dynamics: Does it sometimes feel like you are moving from one power struggle to another? You are not alone. Our society places a high value on individual achievement, yet group interactions are a central element to our everyday lives. There is verifiable evidence to the truth of the statement, "None of us is as smart as all of us." Learn how to identify predictable group interactions and phases of group development to help you find success in small group settings.

Problem solving: "It's my way or the highway." Sure, the authoritarian approach to solving problems can move an organization along the road – but is it the right road? There are several reasons why good people can make bad decisions; groupthink, inferential errors, rigid mindsets, and information overload. Learn how to identify these problems and to implement sound decision-making steps to help move your organization in the right direction.

Managing conflict: Conflict is good – agree or disagree? Communication experts say that if members of your organization get along too well, agree too readily, and move ahead too quickly your organization is missing out on some opportunities for growth. Learn how to recognize conflict patterns and approach disagreement with a "win-win" attitude to encourage positive energy, "out-of-the-box" solutions, and a renewed commitment to organizational goals.

Leadership: "Good leaders are born, not made." Perhaps a better synopsis might be, "An effective leader may not necessarily be the one at the front of the pack." There are different types of leadership roles and influences within an organization. Learn how to identify leadership patterns and how to capitalize on the strengths of each employee to promote growth and development within your organization.

Workplace Communication

Listening skills: Think of all the time you spent in school learning how to read and write. Yet how many times did a stern-faced teacher admonish you for failing to listen? Are listening skills supposed to develop naturally, or are you all on your own? Help is on the way. Learn how to recognize external and internal obstacles to listening, followed by methods to help you absorb, interpret and retain messages.

Nonverbal messages: "Your words say 'yes' but your body says '"no.'" Been there, experienced that? Communication can be complicated, especially when words don't match outward appearances. Nonverbal communication can include everything from facial expressions and gestures to clothing and even jewelry. Learn how to interpret and decode items such as personal space, environmental factors, paralanguage, and artifacts.

Perceptions: "What you see is what you get," may have worked for comedian Flip Wilson on the hit comedy series, Laugh-In, but misperceptions in the workplace can be no laughing matter. Misread appearances can easily build into misunderstandings and resentments that can hinder workplace productivity. Learn why it is easy to fall into the prejudgment trap, how to avoid mind reading, and how to guard against self-serving bias and attribution errors.

Language miscues: You have carefully selected your words and you delivered them exactly the way you wanted to. So, why is the receiver of the message looking back at you with a bewildered expression? Keep in mind that words are arbitrary and ambiguous symbols. Cultural differences, delivery and context can produce sometimes-humorous and sometimes-risky mishaps. Learn ways to improve clarity and accuracy with careful and deliberate word selection.

Virtual communication: You have an important issue and you need input. Do you telephone, teleconference, e-mail, Skype, Twitter, Facebook, text message or arrange a conference call to get the best results? Learn the advantages and disadvantages of the various communication channels, the new protocol in our expanding media world, and compare formal vs. information communication networks.

Stress Management

Stress Prevention: Do you frequently feel you have too much on your plate? Have the joys of your life been lost to daily drudgeries and as a result, do you find your health and well-being getting worse, rather than better? Most of our personal stress has to do with the ways we think about things. Learn how to perceive your life situations differently so every moment is joyful, peaceful, and stress-free.

Stress Reduction: How long have you been living with stress and the unpleasant symptoms (headache, irritability, sleeping problems, muscle soreness, etc,) and nothing seems to make them go away. In fact, they seem to be getting worse. Maybe you've been told to relax, but you have no idea how to do it effectively. Wouldn't it be nice to feel good again? You can learn how to reduce your stress levels and turn off your stress, for good.

Emotional Well-being: Our fears frequently get in the way of getting what we want. Does worrying or feeling anxious about things in your life prevent you from the type of life you dream of? Learn how to increase your productivity and experience greater levels of inner peace. Best of all, you'll learn how to enjoy doing all the "stuff" you need to do and feel better in the process.

Thanks to fabulous you and your amazing staff, everything went smashingly well! Our guests thoroughly enjoyed themselves and once again, we simply cannot say enough about the wonderful food, service and professionalism you offer.
Futura is so appreciative of the new policy enabling the room rental fee to be waived once the minimum food and beverage amount is met. We feel that is really a very nice addition of value.

I just spent three days with my Albion Minerals client at Snowbasin and wanted to pass our thanks along. We were focused on customer service excellence in the retreat and were able to regularly refer to what we were seeing around us (not to mention the high marks in Ski magazine). The food was wonderful and well presented. Every need anyone expressed was handled just right. Your front line is friendly and helpful.
Anyway, your staff in Earl's is great and treated the Albion folks like valued guests. I brought them to Earl's the first time three years ago and now they insist on returning.
