| New at Snowbasin this summer are
two nine hole disc golf courses which utilize the terrain of
the mountain for the hazards. The Plaza Nine (front nine) is
played around the base area. The Needles Nine (back nine) is
located at the summit of the Needles Gondola Each course is
played in a circular sequence. Don't miss utilizing Needles
Lodge as your "Clubhouse" while playing the mountaintop course
at Needles. The Plaza Nine
boasts both novice and advanced "tee pads," perfect for the
whole family or players just beginning their disc golf careers.
The Needles Nine (requires a gondola ride fee) is designed by
Mother Nature for a more challenging play. Many of the fairways
are in clear view from Needles Gondola, giving its passengers a
peek of the play before beginning their own game or other
mountain activities.
The Grizzly Center, located in the
Main Plaza, has disc golf frisbee packages available to rent at
the
Rental Shop.
Trail maps are also available in the Center or for download at
the Trail Maps
page. For more information about Disc Golf courses and

What is Disc
Golf?
Disc golf is played much like traditional golf. Instead of a
ball and clubs, however, players use a flying disc, or Frisbee®
The sport was formalized in the 1970's, and shares with "ball
golf" the object of completing each hole in the fewest number of
strokes (or, in the case of disc golf, fewest number of throws).
A golf disc is thrown from a tee area to a target which is the
"hole," most commonly an elevated metal basket. As a player
progresses down the fairway, he or she must make each
consecutive shot from the spot where the previous throw has
landed. The trees, shrubs and terrain changes located in and
around the fairways provide challenging obstacles for the
golfer. Finally, the "putt" lands in the basket and the hole is
completed. Disc golf shares the same joys and frustrations of
traditional golf, whether it's sinking a long putt or hitting a
tree halfway down the fairway. There are a few differences,
though. Disc golf rarely requires a greens fee, you probably
won't need to rent a cart, and you never get stuck with a bad
"tee time." It is designed to be enjoyed by people of all ages,
male and female, regardless of economic status.
Rules of Disc Golf
- When the disc lands
out of bound in the tall grass, it's a one stroke
penalty.
- When the disc lands in the trees (six feet or higher
above ground), creek, sand trap or fescue grass
traps, it's a one stroke penalty.
- If you throw out of turn it's a one stroke penalty.
- The furthest person from the hole always shoots
first.
